ROOSC Project Groundbreaking Batch 1 – Stage 1

ROOSC Project: Kaduna Expands Access to Education

A major milestone has been reached with the groundbreaking for Batch 1, Stage 1 of the ROOSC project, marking the commencement of civil works across nine pilot Local Government Areas in Kaduna State. This first phase will see the construction of 16 new schools and the renovation of 30 existing schools, including learning centres, laying the foundation for improved learning environments and expanded access to education in underserved communities.

Under the leadership of His Excellency, Sen. Uba Sani, CON, Kaduna State has launched a major education expansion effort through the Reaching Out-of-School Children (ROOSC) Project, aimed at eradicating the menace of out of school  children and creating safe and supportive learning environments.

The Project Coordinator, Mr. Ezra Angai, in his speech said the process of site selection was scientifically done based on the mapping data ensuring that the furthest left behind are captured. He charged the community to take ownership and safeguard the structures. He equally thanked the state government and the partners for their immense support.

The Reaching Out-of-School Children project is supported by international development institutions including the Islamic Development Bank, Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, Global Partnership for Education, Education Above All, and Save the Children International.

Beyond increasing the number of schools, the project is focused on improving the quality and safety of learning environments. New facilities are designed with climate-resilient structures, reinforced roofing, improved sanitation, and inclusive features that accommodate children with disabilities.

With construction beginning across the state, the ROOSC Project marks a major milestone in Kaduna’s journey toward ensuring that every child has access to quality education. As global research from UNESCO continues to highlight, education remains one of the most powerful tools for reducing poverty and unlocking opportunity.

For Kaduna State, the vision is clear: a future where no child is left behind and every classroom becomes a doorway to opportunity
