Promoting Dignity, Health, and Education Through the ROOSC Project
In a renewed effort to promote menstrual hygiene management, boost school attendance, and reduce barriers to education for girls, Save the Children International (SCI) under the Reaching Out-of-School Children (ROOSC) Project has successfully distributed menstrual hygiene kits and learning materials across nine Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Kaduna State.
During the recent distribution in Kaduna State, over a thousand adolescent girls received comprehensive menstrual hygiene kits containing both reusable and disposable sanitary pads, underwear, ropes, soap, buckets, and torchlights. The intervention is strategically designed to address menstrual-related absenteeism, a key factor contributing to girls dropping out of school.
Menstrual hygiene remains a critical but often overlooked factor in girls’ education. Studies have shown that poor menstrual hygiene management leads to frequent absenteeism, reduced concentration, and eventually, school dropouts.
The success of the menstrual hygiene distribution across the 9 pilot LGAs stands as a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration, empathy, and targeted interventions. It not only promotes better hygiene and health practices but also lays the foundation for sustained educational participation among adolescent girls.
The ROOSC project in Kaduna, remains committed to building inclusive systems, empowering communities, and ensuring that no child is left behind especially girls whose education has been disrupted by poverty, insecurity, or cultural limitations.
