ROOSC Project Sparks Renewed Hope for Education Access and Equity
Education is every child’s right, and in Kaduna State, this right is being restored for thousands of children who were once left behind.
The ROOSC initiative marks another major milestone in the collective effort to reduce the number of out-of-school children, boost classroom participation, and enhance learning outcomes across Kaduna.
Bringing Education Closer, One Kit at a Time
The joy on the children’s faces was unmistakable as hundreds of learners received school bags, exercise books, pens, mathematical sets, crayons, sharpeners, and other essential supplies. For many, it was their first time owning complete learning materials—tools that symbolize a pathway to a brighter future.
The State Project Coordinator of ROOSC, Mr. Ezra Angai, described the distribution as a “crucial step in empowering children to learn and succeed.”
“Education is the foundation for national development. By providing learning materials to children who previously had none, we are enabling them to participate fully in school activities and rekindle their enthusiasm for learning,” he said.
So far, over 35,000 learning materials have been distributed across the nine pilot LGAs where the ROOSC project is being implemented, benefiting thousands of learners and revitalizing classrooms across Kaduna State. This integrated approach underscores the project’s focus on holistic child development. The idea behind distributing these kits is to help children learn better, and build confidence as they transition to higher levels of education. A child who feels confident and cared for is more likely to stay in school and excel.
Breaking Barriers, Bridging Gaps
The ROOSC project coordinated by the Kaduna State Government and supported by global partners has a bold vision to return 200,000 out-of-school children to classrooms within four years.
With plans to build 102 new schools, renovate 170 existing ones, and train teachers across the state, the project is reshaping the educational landscape in Kaduna. It is tackling not just physical barriers but also the economic and social obstacles that keep children away from school.
Through its implementation role, Save the Children International continues to bring technical expertise in education delivery, community mobilization, and child protection ensuring that every intervention reaches the children who need it most.
Lighting the Path Forward
The recent learners’ kit distribution has become more than just a handout it is a symbol of hope, a tool for empowerment, and a bridge to equality. For thousands of Kaduna’s children, it represents the start of a new educational journey filled with possibilities.
By investing in children’s learning materials and wellbeing, the ROOSC project is not only breaking the cycle of poverty and illiteracy but also paving the way for a generation of confident, capable, and inspired learners who will one day drive the progress of their communities and nation.
